About the Artist
Meet HoneyBee
HoneyBee (he/they), formally Nik Boivin, is a budding artist based in San Diego, CA. Inspired by the beauty of the world, art is Honeyβs passion. Artistic heroes including Vincent Van Gogh and HiΓ«ronymus Bosch, Honeyβs style tends to lean towards the colorful, abstract-realistic, and slightly more curious. Nurturing skills long subdued, Honey is returning to their true raison d'Γͺtre of creativity and self-expression through art. A lover of all things colorful and quirky, Honey is accepting and welcoming of all expressions of joy, love, and kindness in the world.
Why the name HoneyBee?
βI have always felt like a soul too sensitive for this life. For many years, I shut myself off from the horrific events happening throughout the world. I focused on making it through the day with the goal of making a good living with stable material and financial foundations.
This caught up to me. One day after developing more and more unease, I reached my breaking point. That breaking point was sparked by the honey bee. In the news at that time was the catastrophic prediction of the extinction of the honey bees and what that would entail for the Earth and its ecosystems. My world came crushing down at the thought of the bees dying.
After days of depressive, anxiety ridden breakdowns, I realized how outrageous my collapse had been over something so small which sparked my internal search for why I was so affected by the honey bee. I began my journey of self-rediscovery. I began reaching for passions that once inspired me. I began therapy to heal what was so hurt inside. I began to live my life for me which I should have been doing all along.
Since this important time in my life, I have always seen the honey bee as a reminder that life is fragile, temporary, and special. The honey bee is a small creature, neglected and forgotten by many, who is vital to the world around them. Their work creates such beauty in the pollination of flowers. They create sustenance vital to all ecosystems. They create the sweet joy that is honey. They do this all without being asked, through the hard struggles of survival, and with total unselfish intentions.
In a lot of ways, I feel like the honey beeβs importance came to me in a time of spiritual and emotional turmoil. Through this turmoil, I feel that the honey bee has become my sign of strength, creativity, beauty, and everything that I aim to be in my life. In a lot of ways, honey bees saved me and by calling myself βHoneyBee,β I honor their importance in shaping a happier, healthier, and more fulfilled me.β
