[Press Release] "Portraits of Drag" Fundraiser Launched to Support LGBTQ+ Charities

A Celebration of Queer Artistry with Proceeds Benefiting Charities Such as TransTexas, Drew Project, the Trevor Project, Broadway Cares, and More

San Diego, CA – October 22, 2024

A new global initiative, *Portraits of Drag*, has launched, bringing together the worlds of art and drag to raise funds for LGBTQ+ charities. The fundraiser features painted portraits of renowned drag queens from across the globe, with proceeds going to support critical LGBTQ+ organizations like TransTexas, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, the Drew Project, the Trevor Project, and more. Each portrait, created by San Diego artist Nik Boivin, honors the strength, creativity, and resilience of drag performers while supporting charitable causes chosen by the queens themselves.

The Portraits of Drag fundraiser showcases over 20 vibrant portraits of drag icons such as Sapphira Cristal, Coco Montrese, Kelly Mantle, Jaymes Mansfield, and Todrick Hall. These drag queens, hailing from places as diverse as Australia, Taiwan, and the United States, are celebrated through original artworks that capture their individuality and spirit.  The project culminates in a limited-edition book featuring the queens and their stories will be available, with all profits supporting the fundraiser.

Supporters can directly contribute by pre-purchasing the project and prints of the portraits at www.TheHoneyBee.org/Drag, with proceeds going to the drag queens' selected charities. Additionally, each queen will receive their original portrait, which they may auction off or donate to further benefit the causes close to their hearts should they choose.

The Portraits of Drag project hopes to conclude the project with a gala event where the portraits will be revealed, and all supporters will be recognized. The gala is contingent on funding and resources, and we are actively seeking support to make this celebration a reality.

The Portraits of Drag fundraiser has also partnered with Aheadastep.com to offer exclusive apparel that supports the project. Shirts and other items featuring designs that promote LGBTQ+ causes are available at www.aheadastep.com and www.TheHoneyBee.org/drag-shirts

Companies and organizations interested in supporting the project can visit www.TheHoneyBee.org/Sponsor for sponsorship opportunities and ways to get involved.
